http://www.fibaeurope.com – FIBA Europe announced on Wednesday that Israel’s EuroBasket 2015 Qualifying Round home game against Montenegro, on 10 August, will be played in Nicosia, Cyprus.
After consultation with the Israeli Basketball Federation and taking into consideration the concerns of the visiting federations about the ongoing unrest in the territory of Israel FIBA Europe decided that Israel’s first home qualifier must be played on neutral ground.
The Israeli Basketball Federation confirmed on Wednesday, the “Tassos Papadopoulos-Eleftheria” venue in Nicosia as their choice.
Israel have been drawn in the Qualifying Round Group B, alongside Montenegro, Bulgaria and the Netherlands.
A decision on Israel’s two remaining home games against the Netherlands and Bulgaria on 24 and 27 August respectively, will be decided next week.
In view of the current situation a number of international governing bodies, including UEFA, have ordered Israeli teams to organise their upcoming home games at official competitions in third countries
